ANOTHER day, another new Eastleigh signing.

Joining the Spitfires ahead of tonight’s Vanarama National League showdown at home to Dover Athletic (7.45pm) is 6ft 1in midfielder Jason Taylor, released by Northampton Town by mutual consent.

The 29-year-old joined the Cobblers from Cheltenham Town in January 2015 and made 34 starts and 24 sub appearances, scoring twice.

Taylor is the Spitfires' 13th summer arrival and follows former Northampton teammate Ryan Cresswell to the Silverlake Stadium to bolster Eastleigh's push for the Football League.

Born in Droylsden, Taylor is another new Spitfire boasting oodles of Football League experience.

He started out as a trainee at Oldham Athletic and went on to amass over 200 appearances for Stockport County and Rotherham United before joining Cheltenham on a free transfer in January 2013.

Explaining Taylor’s departure, Northampton boss Rob Page said: “I know Jason played a part when he first arrived at the club 18 months ago, but he found a starting spot tough last season and also at the start of this season and we fully understand he wants and needs to be playing regularly.

"I think it is in the interest of all parties that we allow him to move on.

"He is an excellent professional with a great attitude and he leaves with our best wishes."
