NEWLY-PROMOTED Hamble Club are lording it at the Sydenhams Wessex One summit after tearing into Pewsey Vale 9-1 in Wiltshire on Saturday.

There was almost one goal scored for every two of the 22 spectators in attendance as James Thomson (3), Dougie Rowe (2), Coby Wilson, Liam Crook, Murray Holmes and Nathan Lynch edged the merry Monks top on goal difference.

And in an extraordinary show of strength from sides fresh up from the Hampshire Premier League, Baffins Milton Rovers also went goal crazy, demolishing Andover New Street 9-0.

Hamble Club have won all four league games so far, with their previous 5-0 triumph at Totton & Eling making it 14 goals scored in their last two.

Before that, they enjoyed a couple of single-goal successes at Shaftesbury (3-2) and at home to Fleet Spurs (4-3).

“We could have been out of sight early on against Fleet, so it’s good to take the chances we didn’t take then,” said co-boss Ben Kneller.

“Our discipline has been good too. Last year we got quite a few bookings and stuff and we don’t want to be seen as a team that’s not welcoming to officials.

“We haven’t had a booking for two or three games and the lads are taking on a lot of responsibility which keeps the committee off our backs.

“Baffins’ result stands out as well and I think ourselves and them are as strong as anyone in this division. The two of us are flying the flag for the Hampshire Premier League.”

It goes without saying that the Monks are in high spirits ahead of tomorrow’s (Tuesday, 7.45pm) Hamble derby at Folland Sports in the Hampshire FA Senior Cup.

Hamble Club had been drawn at home but have switched the tie to Follands Park while lighting work is completed.

After a tough start to the season, Follands – relegated from the Wessex Premier – have banked a couple of points from 1-1 draws against New Milton and Hythe & Dibden.

“It’s going to be a nice local showpiece,” said Kneller. “Although Follands have not picked up masses of points, Herby (Follands boss Dave Herbert) will have them well drilled. I saw the highlights of their game against Hythe and they weren’t bad at all.

“If you look at our side, they’re all local lads and there's a lot of pride to play for.

“We go to Follands again in the league next Tuesday (August 30) and that’s the really massive one.

“Whoever wins tonight gets another local tie at Sholing, but we don’t want these cup games built up into something they’re not.

“We’re not going to win the Hampshire Senior Cup. The league campaign’s the important thing for us.”

Callum Dart, Brad Fairweather, Ryan Pennery and sub Jamie White each bagged braces in Baffins' landslide win. Shane Cornish was also on target for the Portsmouth outfit who host Christchurch in the county cup tomorrow.
