IT’S been a long time coming, but AFC Totton should finally have their strongest squad available for Saturday's Southern One South & West trip to Shortwood United.

The Stags remain fourth to bottom but a solid 0-0 draw at Evesham two weeks ago, coupled with Tuesday’s 3-1 Hampshire FA Senior Cup win at Newport IoW, has given Steve Hollick’s men something to build on.

Dave Allen and two-goal Dan Munday fired Totton to county cup victory on the Island where, with the exception of cup-tied new strike signing Ashley Jarvis, the unavailable Nathaniel Sherborne and the injured Dylan Knight, they fielded their strongest side.

Both Sherborne and Jarvis will be in Saturday's squad and dislocated shoulder victim Knight could also be in the mix if he is signed off by his doctor.

“Barring Sherbs, we fielded the same team that played at Evesham on Tuesday and it was a good performance. We pretty much dictated the whole game,” said Hollick.

“The squad’s looking good now – probably the strongest we’ve had for a long time – and we need to build on that Evesham performance.

“We’ve got 16 or 17 players with good strength on the bench to come on and change games.

“If we can match our defensive display against Evesham and put away our chances, we should do okay.”

Shortwood sit tenth in the table, having lost two of their three home league games.

“It’s always a good game there, quite a goal fest,” said Hollick. “I’ve got a lot of time for their manager, Alex Sykes, we talk quite a bit.”

Totton’s last league trip to Shortwood ended in a 5-3 April defeat. The big talking point, though, was their team coach causing a major traffic hold-up in the Gloucestershire town of Nailsworth when the driver got it stuck trying to turn a tight corner.

Seventh-placed Salisbury are away to Yate Town on Saturday.

They too had a midweek win to spur them on, blitzing Shaftesbury 5-0 in the Salisbury Hospital Cup.

Justin Bennett scored twice, backed by singles from Eddie Perrett, Lewis Benson and Adam Flint.

There was a welcome return for Whites' former Sholing and Follands defender Calum Brockway who dislocated his shoulder against Hereford back in March.
