MONEYFIELDS lost more ground in the Sydenhams Premier Division title race with an unexpected 3-0 defeat at Portland United on Saturday.

Since beating title rivals Blackfield & Langley on September 24, Dave Carter’s Money men have picked up just one point from three league games.

Portland, stung by what they viewed as a undeserved 1-0 midweek reverse at Sholing, were in a hungry mood as goals by Lewis Whyton and Jamie Beasley (2) put Moneys to the sword.

Delighted Blues boss Gary Bailey said: “It was thoroughly deserved and we picked up where we left off in the performance at Sholing.

“Moneyfields are a good side and are there or thereabouts in the league, but we just dominated and never gave them a foothold in the game.

“We asked lots of questions of them and it disrupted their rhythm.

"Our lads in midfield worked hard without the ball and that’s what pleased me.

"We did the horrible side of it well too. When we lost the ball we worked hard to win it back.”

Bailey added: “I was delighted for the lads because they have put in good performances in the last two games against good sides.

“Three points is the minimum they deserve for those performances.

“It’s all very well playing against these sides and playing well but, at the end of the day, it’s a results business.

“We had to find a way of turning these performances into points.”

Moneyfields tomorrow (Tuesday, 7.45pm) visit Fareham Town, who were themselves on the end of a Saturday hiding, beaten 6-3 on the new 3G pitch at Hamworthy United.

New signing Max Crow from New Milton marked his Hammers debut with two goals, while Steve Smith (2), Steve Flynn and Matt Kemble also netted.

Ash Tattersall, George Davis and sub Harry Weeks replied for the visitors.

Satisfied Hamworthy boss Carl Poore said: “We played really well. Max Crow was fantastic and it was a great debut with two goals and two assists.”

*EXPERIENCED campaigner Carlo Tate netted for the second game running to pave the way for Lymington Town’s 3-1 home win over AFC Portchester.

Charlie Willett and Luke Ansell also scored for the New Forest outfit who are up to eighth in the Sydenhams Premier Division.

Lymington tomorrow (Tuesday, 7.30pm) host Sydenhams One leaders Hamble Club in the second round of the Southampton Senior Cup.

Having lost their 100 per cent league record at Christchurch in midweek, Hamble returned to winning ways at *Weymouth Reserves on Saturday.

Goals by Matt Burt and Nathan Lynch secured the Monks a 2-0 victory, keeping them three points clear of Laverstock & Ford at the top.

*VERWOOD Town remain anchored to the foot of the Sydenhams Premier table after Jay Johnson and Joe Richardson condemned them to a 2-0 defeat at Horndean.

The ninth-placed Deans tomorrow visit Andover Town who are up to 12th after second-half goals by Charlie Gunson and Shane Lock clinched at 2-1 win at Newport IoW.

Newport pulled a stoppage-time goal back when Jimmi Burton’s deflected strike looped over their former ‘keeper Jamie Bray.

The clash between Amesbury Town and Cowes Sports petered out 0-0.
