TEAM Solent were always going to be a force to be reckoned with in the Sydenhams Premier Division once they got up to full strength.

But even manager James Taylor was seriously impressed by Saturday's 9-0 scoreline at home to shell-shocked Whitchurch United.

Such is the wealth of talent currently at Taylor’s disposal that he even had the luxury of resting Jesse Waller-Lassen, his standout player of the last two seasons.

Instead it was Silvano Obeng who stole the show with a four-goal haul for the rampant Southampton Solent University side – including a first-half hat-trick.

Ex-QPR youth player Tyrell Mitford scored twice as did the returning Jim Orvis who, having completed his studies, has returned to Solent to work.

Tobi Adekunle was also on target on an afternoon when everything clicked for the Students.

“We were exceptionally good with our passing and when we play like that it's difficult to stop us,” said Taylor.

“Silvano’s got four goals. He’s a big, strong lad who’s a bit different to our usual type of centre-forward.

“He played for Kettering last season as part of their under-21s and has just started his first year at Uni.”

Joining Waller-Lassen on the Solent bench was another of last season’s Sydenhams League Cup/Southampton Senior Cup double winners Sam Byles.

The ex-Arsenal trainee has finished his studies at Solent but will be available for a few games before heading off to Australia after Christmas.
