WINCHESTER City are through to the FA Trophy first qualifying round at the second attempt.

But manager Ian Saunders was pushed all the way by his old club Petersfield Town.

City fell behind to a 19th-minute Gari Judd goal at Love Lane before going on to win the preliminary round replay 3-1 after extra-time.

Joe Briggs, an ex-Rams player, turned and fired City level in the 66th minute and, as the hosts faded, Winchester dominated the added half-hour as Sam Wilson’s close-range finish and Jamie Ford’s header booked them a trip to Fleet Town on October 29.

It was curtains for AFC Totton who lost their Trophy replay 2-1 at home to Wimborne Town.

The first half was a tale of two free-kicks as Stags’ set-piece maestro Mike Gosney brilliantly wiped out Jamie Davidson’s strike on the brink of half-time.

But, just shy of the hour-mark, Davidson won it for the Magpies with the aid of a deflection. A trip to Tiverton Town awaits them.

Mixed news for Sholing. While Dan Mason’s 62nd-minute header from Marvin McLean’s cross edged them past Southampton League underdogs Park Sports 1-0 in the Southampton Senior Cup, they lost leadership of the Sydenhams Premier Division as a single Dan Woodward goal at Fareham hoisted Moneyfields to the summit.

Elsewhere in the league, Andover Town (Charlie Gunson, 2) were held 2-2 by Horndean and it also finished 2-2 between Bemerton (Scott Joyce, Jon Blake) and Bournemouth (Dave Ewen, Sami Makhloufi).

Newport IoW (Josh Younie, Jimmi Burton, Joe Butcher) fought back from 2-1 down to triumph 3-2 at AFC Portchester (Nathan Kirby, Rob Evans).

In the Southampton Senior Cup, ex-Saint Jamie White netted twice in Blackfield & Langley’s 5-0 defeat of Netley Central, Mark Barker’s early goal nudged Brockenhurst past QK Southampton 1-0 and Sydenhams One top dogs Hamble Club humbled higher division Lymington Town 4-0.

Holders Team Solent had continued their defence of the trophy on Monday night by hammering Hythe & Dibden 7-0 through Jesse Waller-Lassen (4), Pip Nolan, Jim Orvis and Silvano Obeng.

Five-goal Warren Bentley led Gosport Borough to a landslide club record 19-1 victory over Widbrook in the Portsmouth Senior Cup.

Salisbury also got in some handy target practice at Pewsey Vale, where they emerged handsome 8-0 victors in the Wiltshire Senior Cup.

Pewsey had a player red-carded late in the first half and the Whites took full advantage to rack up their third cup win in a week.

Winger Mahlondo Martin netted a hat-trick on his debut, Olly Mehew struck twice and there was a goal apiece for George Colson, Eddie Perrett and fit-again Claudio Herbert.
