NEWPORT IoW’s long wait for a home victory continues in the Sydenhams Premier Division.

The Islanders were held 0-0 by Fawley AFC at St George’s Park on Saturday, making it eight home games without a win.

Former AFC Totton head coach Lee Burch - back from a broken leg - deputised in goal for Fawley, but it was his opposite number Gary Streeter who was called upon to make the most crucial save of the match, tipping Lewis Ross’s 20-yarder over the crossbar.

Fawley’s latest signing Steve Green, formerly of Hythe & Dibden, was introduced after 65 minutes, replacing Harrison Fay.

The Creekside derby ended 4-2 in AFC Portchester’s favour against Fareham Town at the Blanchard Wells Stadium.

A Steve Ramsey penalty and an Alex Baldacchino free-kick put the Royals in command before Rob Evans made it 3-0 with a left-foot strike.

Jay Ripiner reduced the arrears for Fareham, but the visitors were caught out again by Tom Cain’s close-range header before Lee McCrombie bagged their second.

Bashley treated Sydenhams League president Dennis Challis and a 174-strong crowd to a scintillating 4-0 win over Verwood Town on Saturday.

Challis opened proceedings by presenting Bash chairman Laurence Flanagan and first-team manager Tom Prodomo with the Premier Division club-of-the-month award for September.

The Foresters rose to the occasion with a convincing league victory, keeping them sixth in the table.

Hugh Dathan waltzed past keeper Ray Stroud after 12 minutes following Jesse Gould’s defence-splitting pass and a goal either side of the break by Kabba Jack put Bash well in command at 3-0.

The game was put to bed when another precision run and cross by ex-Blackfield man Dathan was met and dispatched by substitute Taylor Leonard.

Brockenhurst are up to fourth following a 2-1 home win over Whitchurch United.

Ryan Long and sub Matt Vokes scored for the Badgers with Danny Phillips netting the Jam Boys' reply.

Brock boss Pat McManus tweeted: "3 valuable points picked up v @whitchurchutd today. Not the greatest of performances but we'll take it."
