WINCHESTER City will have their work cut out to reach the first round proper of the Buildbase FA Trophy when Ryman Premier outfit Dulwich Hamlet roll up at the Denplan City Ground on Saturday (3pm).

But the good thing about facing a side from higher up the pyramid is that there is more chance of sizing up the opposition on the Internet.

Never one to leave any stone unturned, City boss Ian Saunders has been poring over clips of Dulwich games on YouTube.

“I’ve been doing a bit of homework on them, looking at how they get their goals – and they get them from everywhere!” he said.

“They’re big and strong, a typical Ryman side full of pace and power like a lot of the teams from the London belt.

“I always pre-plan as much as I can. I try and do it for every game.

“I did as much as I could when we went to Wantage in the league and won 1-0 but, with respect, you can’t always get YouTube videos of Wantage and teams at our level."

This is Winchester’s first time in the third qualifying round and Saunders views it as “a huge game” for his mid-table Southern One South & West charges.

“It’s our golden chalice, our Trophy cup final,” he said.

“Dulwich have a good fan base and hopefully they’ll bring a few down and make it a good occasion.

“Our work is definitely cut out against them, but people will have said that when Truro came here in the FA Cup, yet we turned in a real good performance (a 4-0 win).

“We’re at home, we’ve earned to right to get to this stage and if we relax and we’re all at our best, who knows? We’ll give it a good go and see where it takes us.”

Winchester must make defensive alterations after losing young full-back Joe Hayward to a broken leg at Mangotsfield. The abandonment of that game means Jamie Ford’s suspension now carries into tomorrow.

Matt Evans and Adam Tomasso should be back, but striker Dan Simmonds is cup-tied.

Dulwich’s pedigree squad includes wideman/midfielder Ashley Carew, who played for Eastleigh during Ian Baird’s reign. They are up to fifth following Tuesday's 2-0 Ryman result at Harrow Borough - their third straight victory.

Saturday's winners will get £4,000 from the FA Prize Fund.
