Hampshire-based Paralymian Micky Yule has expressed his shock that weightlifting has been axed from UK Sports funding cycle for Tokyo 2020.

Scotsman Yule, an ex-serviceman based in Park Gate, finished sixth in his weight category on his Paralympic debut in Rio.

After UK Sport announced that funding will be cut for weightlifting, amongst several other sports, Yule tweeted:

Over £234million will be invested by UK Sport in order to fund Great Britain's athletes towards the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
