LAST season’s beaten finalists Winchester City are safely through to the last four of the Hampshire FA Senior Cup.

City overcame a defiant performance from their former goalkeeper Ryan Gosney tonight to book their semi-final berth with a 1-0 win at Sholing.

The killer goal arrived on 55 minutes courtesy of former Petersfield Town duo Joe Briggs and Howard Neighbour.

Briggs supplied the near-post cross and Neighbour did the honours with a powerful header.

AFC Totton’s scheduled quarter-final at Hartley Wintney was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and will now be played next Tuesday (January 24).

The Stags will be looking to join a semi-final line-up which, in addition to Winchester, now includes Basingstoke Town and AFC Bournemouth’s development squad.

Gosport Borough’s increasingly depressing season continued with a 6-0 crushing by the Cherries – Mihai Dobre (2), Jack Simpson, Lewis Cook, Jordan Green and Matt Worthington the scorers.

AFC Stoneham, the pride of Sydenhams One, bowed out 2-0 at Basingstoke Town.

Ashleigh Artwell and George Bennett scored for the Southern Premier hosts on an evening that saw both sides reduced to ten men.

Basingstoke’s Matt Partridge and Stoneham’s Matt Palmer were dismissed in quick succession in the first half.

In the Southampton Senior Cup, Brockenhurst overcame Sydenhams One leaders Hamble Club 2-1 at Grigg Lane. Aaron Dunne and Ryan Long netted the Brock goals with Dougie Rowe on target for Hamble.

The night’s only Sydenhams Premier match saw Hamworthy United beat Bemerton 1-0 thanks to a 57th-minute Steve Smith goal.

Moneyfields beat Liss Athletic 2-1 in the Russell Cotes Cup.
