Scores of budding footballers from the Elite Training Centre (ETC), the football coaching organisation that helped develop Saints star Josh Sims, helped raise money and awareness for the charity Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Support UK.

ETC coach Darren Waterman's nephew Oscar was diagnosed with the rare genetic disorder just before his first birthday three months ago.

So 94 of his young players responded by raising £550 for SMA Support UK during ETC's in-house games night at Test Park, Lordshill.

The Waterman family is now nearly halfway to raising £10,000 for the charity, with dad Ozzy aiming to boost the total when he runs the Southampton half marathon in April.

The ETC helped develop Reading star John Swift as well as Sims and has schemes for U8s-U14s.
