Eastleigh put the disappointment of this season’s first London 3 South-West defeat behind them by posting a bonus point home victory over Weybridge Vandals.

The 36-13 win keeps the Bishopstoke Road side within striking distance should leaders Farnham – who beat Eastleigh the previous week – slip up on the run in.

Rich O’Donnell struck twice in the first half as the home side moved 12-6 ahead after conceding a couple of penalties.

A training ground move proved worth all the practice when Paul Taylor, Dan Achilles and Sean Hayes linked up to feed Russell Smith who dived over in the corner. A Phil Baldwin penalty then put Eastleigh 22-6 ahead at half time.

The home side’s bonus point fourth try came after the interval as O’Donnell claimed his hat-trick.

Adam Payne was given a yellow card for an infringement and back came the plucky Weybridge side with try.

Payne then made up for his lost time on the sidelines when he put the game beyond the visitors with his team’s fifth trip over the whitewash.

Matt Blackman was named Eastleigh’s man of the match.
