HYTHE Dragons Kickboxing Club took a squad of seven fighters to Birmingham for WFMC British Championships – five returning as champions.

The junior fighters started the day with Harry Meader first on the mat.

Harry has been with the club for 18 months and got better and better since joining.

He had two excellent fights, winning both to become British champion.

Morgan Sellamuthu was up next, competing in the full contact kickboxing which takes place in a boxing ring.

He successfully defended his title, making him the club’s second British champion of the day.

Two became three when the Dragons’ third junior, Max Lynch, finished his fight in the first round with a technical knockout.

The first of Hythe’s adult fighters, Steve Moss, finished fourth on his debut appearance at that level.

It was the first time at national level too for Shaun Thurston and he made it into the final, finishing runner-up.

Darren Binge was up next, winning his fight with ease against an older opponent to be crowned the Dragons’ fourth British champion of the day.

Hythe’s final fighter was head coach Martin Binge who had two fights in his section and successfully defended his title, showing excellent timing and technical ability.

Martin, Darren, Morgan, Shaun, Max and Harry have all qualified to fight for the WFMC Great Britain team at the WFMC World Championships in Holland in October.

This is the second consecutive year that Martin, Darren, Morgan and Harry have qualified for the Worlds and they will be hoping to build on the success of one gold, two silver and one bronze medal last year.

Head coach Martin Binge said: “I am very proud of my team and their success.

"They always put in 100 per cent effort when training at the Room 13 Gym in Hythe where the club is based.

“To have this level of talent at a small club like ours is fantastic as we have multiple World, British and Southern Area champions.”
