Hampshire can take another step towards a table-topping treble next weekend in their bid for promotion back into the top flight of darts.

Victory over visitors Gwent should see them step back into the Premiership of the British Inter County League – and there could be a couple of bonuses to follow.

Hampshire want to go back up in style by claiming the Division 1 title and winning their final two fixtures to go unbeaten for the season.

They chalked up an historic first the county in their last match when the men’s B side won 12-0.

The 36-man and woman squad take on lowly Gwent at Fareham’s Hill Park Memorial WMC next Saturday and Sunday before finishing off their campaign with a tough trip to Cornwall later in the month.

Hampshire County Darts Organisation spokesman Frank Branscombe said: “They have done so well and there’s great chance Hampshire are going up. I think the 12-0 win for the men in the last match has given them the boost they need to win this game and get promotion.

“The game against Cornwall will probably be the test. They have always been tough adversaries and you are never sure how we will go against them but it would be great if we could win both games and go unbeaten.

“All credit to Hampshire. There have been a lot of changes this year and you have to give credit to the new people coming in who look as if they are going to be rewarded with promotion for their efforts.”
