George Bailey will captain Hampshire in the Specsavers County Championship this season - after missing the first three matches.

James Vince, who was appointed Hampshire captain in 2015, will remain as club captain and continue to lead the side in the limited-overs competitions

Bailey, who returned to Hampshire on a two-year deal this off-season following a previous stint at the Ageas Bowl in 2013, captains Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield.

He has also led Australia in 29 of his 128 one-day international appearances (including the 2015 World Cup) plus two World T20 campaigns

Hampshire Director of Cricket, Giles White said: “We are fortunate to have two excellent captains within the squad and a split between the formats seems a sensible option for us.

“James will captain the white ball teams and George the Championship side; this will allow them to channel their focus in the different formats which should benefit the squad as it looks to compete across all formats.”

Vince has also captained England Lions and led the South  to a 3-0 whitewash of the North in the ECB's inaugural recent series.

Bailey will miss the first three Championship matches plus the Royal London One-Day Cup opener because of his forthcoming wedding.

His first competitive match as four-day skipper will be against Essex at Chelmsford from Friday, May 19.
