AFC TOTTON need just one more point to assure themselves of Southern One South & West survival following Saturday’s dull 0-0 draw at relegation-haunted Wantage Town.

Strong winds contributed to a poor game – the first glimpse of goal coming on 12 minutes when Mark Gamble could only head over from a Charlie Gunson corner.

A very drab half ensued with the only other significant Totton action being a 25-yard shot wide from Gunson.

Wantage’s only real sight of goal came when Dan Sadler threw himself at Sean McKeon’s square pass but failed to make a connection.

Sadler also had the first opportunity of the second half but shot harmlessly wide.

The Stags began to create more opportunities but Ian Oliver headed straight at keeper Eddie Cavanagh and Aldershot loanee Matt Bozier fired wide from the edge of the area as he looked to liven things up.

Another Gunson corner resulted in Nathaniel Sherborne controlling the ball neatly on the edge of the area, but he could only fire wide.

Just before the hour mark Sherborne turned provider for Gamble only for a great recovery from the Wantage defence to result in another chance going begging.

The game then went flat again with second-to-bottom Wantage offering more forward momentum but barely testing Pat O’Flaherty in the Totton goal.

The last action provided the Stags’ best opportunity of a breakthrough, but sub Dylan Knight swivelled and hooked the ball over the bar from eight yards.

Totton, 18th, will go in search of that final survival point away at Slimbridge tomorrow (Wednesday, 7.45).
