AFC TOTTON slid back to 20th in the Southern One South & West this evening, beaten 2-0 at Slimbridge.

The Stags were floored by a swift one-two in the 34th and 36th minutes as Jack Twyman and Adam Mace swept the Swans to victory.

Totton had their chances - Alfy Whittingham going closest with a 41st-minute shot on the turn that was cleared off the line.

By leapfrogging the Stags into 19th spot, Slimbridge have mathematically assured themselves of Southern League survival.

Totton still require a point to make 100 per cent certain of safety and will look to get it at home to Bideford on Saturday.

Lee Wort’s second-half strike secured fourth-placed Sholing a 1-0 Sydenhams Premier victory at fifth-placed Alresford, opening a 13-point gap between the sides.

Alresford’s Rob Flooks hit the bar in the first half and Wort followed suit with a 66th-minute volley from TJ Cuthbertson’s cross.

Seven minutes later Wort had better luck as he latched onto a long clearance from 'keeper Ryan Gosney and found the bottom corner.

Gosney was making his 100th appearance for the Boatmen while defender Dan Miller reached the 200-game milestone.

Elsewhere in the Sydenhams Premier, Newport IoW battled out a 0-0 stalemate with AFC Portchester, while Jamie Mansell netted Whitchurch United's consolation goal in a 4-1 home defeat by Bemerton Heath.

Scott Joyce, Jon Blake, Mark Smith and Jake Rawkins netted for the Harlequins, who host champions elect Moneyfields on Saturday.

Division One leaders Hamble Club could not have hoped for a better combination of results.

While the Monks were busy beating Pewsey Vale 2-0, their closest rivals Baffins Milton Rovers came unstuck 3-1 at lowly Andover New Street.

Dougie Rowe and new signing Nick Watts fired Hamble tantalisingly close to the title.

They have an eight-point cushion over Baffins who were rocked by first-half goals from Gunner Yates, Jamie Pollard and Josh Wilson at New Street.

Andover had Max Allen dismissed for a second yellow card early in the second half, but Baffins couldn’t capitalise until Blu Boam belatedly netted a free-kick.
