EASTLEIGH have agreed a two-year deal with Leyton Orient striker Paul McCallum.

The 23-year-old will be a free agent when his Os’ contract expires next month and available to join the Spitfires when they return for pre-season training.

The ex-Dulwich Hamlet and West Ham United forward is one of many players expected to exit Brisbane Road in the coming weeks with the London club destined to join Eastleigh in the National League following relegation from League Two.

During the course of a turbulent 2016/17 in east London, McCallum worked under five different Orient bosses - one more than Eastleigh managed - including the Spitfires’ new assistant boss Andy Hessenthaler.

The 6ft 3in hitman forced his way into the team during Hessenthaler’s time in charge and rewarded the boss with an impressive return of six goals in eight appearances.

He featured less regularly under Hessenthaler’s successor Alberto Cavasin, but Streatham-born McCallum was back in the goals in December, scoring twice against Crawley Town and providing a couple of assists under the new leadership of Andy Edwards.

He found the net again against Barnet but suffered a dislocated fibula during a 2-0 defeat at Mansfield Town – Edwards’ last game in charge.

McCallum returned to action in mid-February under yet another boss, Danny Webb, even though he was not fully fit.

Further goals followed against Notts County and Stevenage but, still in pain, he missed the next six weeks of the campaign - another frustrating time for the player who, after a strong start to the season, had sat out seven months of 2015/16 with anterior cruciate ligament damage.

Webb was then replaced by Omer Riza and the fit-again McCallum made his last Os’ appearance at home to Colchester United, going off to a standing ovation when he was substituted.

McCallum, whose travels have also included loan spells with Rochdale, AFC Wimbledon, Aldershot Town, Heart of Midlothian, Torquay United and Portsmouth, leaves Orient with a record of 15 goals in 43 appearances.
