PAUL McCallum helped himself to four first-half goals as Eastleigh cruised their latest pre-season friendly 9-0 at Alton.

Faced with a side who ply their trade five leagues lower in Sydenhams Wessex One, the Spitfires were not seriously tested.

But it was a useful workout on a 3G pitch ahead of their National League opener on Bromley’s new synthetic surface on August 5.

Having opened the scoring with a 19th-minute header, McCallum – signed on a two-year deal from Leyton Orient – struck three times in a ten-minute spell leading up to the break.

Job done, he watched on in the second half as Craig McAllister, Ross Stearn, Ayo Obileye, James Constable and Michael Green crowned a convincing victory.

The Spitfires can expect a sterner test on Tuesday (7pm) when an AFC Bournemouth XI visit the Silverlake Stadium.

Sydenhams Premier outfit Sholing also ran out comfortable winners, beating Whitchurch United 4-0 at a rain-swept Universal Stadium.

Resident hotshot Dan Mason took just 14 minutes to find the net and defender Dan Miller doubled the lead with a header.

Lee Wort added the other two either side of having a penalty saved.

Next up for Dave Diaper’s men is a trip to Fawley AFC on Wednesday (July 26, 7.30pm).

There were goals galore too at Test Park where AFC Totton endured a rollercoaster 5-4 defeat against Team Solent.

Three times the Stags dragged themselves back from behind with young duo Harry Prisk and Alex Haynes wiping out a 2-0 deficit and then Craig Feeney and an own goal from Curtis Young’s cross making it 3-3 and 4-4. Team Solent won it with a quality free-kick.

Totton head to Bemerton Heath Harlequins on Tuesday (7.45pm).

Manager Craig Davis led Winchester City to a 2-0 win at his old club Bashley.

Adam Tomasso struck from the spot after Rob Carr had been upended and Brett Stanley killed the game off after going on as a second-half sub.

Winchester hit the road again to Blackfield & Langley on Tuesday (7.45pm).
