SIXTEEN-year-old Leon Carbayo-Borges has been invited down for trials at AFC Bournemouth – thanks to the power of The Echo!

The Brockenhurst teenager made headlines when he scored an extra-time winner for Brockenhurst in the FA Vase at Shaftesbury.

Less than 24 hours later the Fawley-based frontman/wideman was at it again, plundering a hat-trick for Brock’s under-18s against Moneyfields.

Those exploits brought him to the attention of the Cherries who, over the years, have made it their business to monitor up-and-coming youngsters in the non-League game.

In 2013 they signed Christchurch FC winger Harry Cornick who spent four years on Bournemouth’s books before joining League Two outfit Luton Town over the summer.

Brock boss Pat McManus said: “Off the strength of the articles in The Echo/Pink, AFC Bournemouth have contacted us to say Leon is going to be invited down there.

“They’ve not seen him play, but they’ve read the articles and they’re going to make a point of watching him before he goes down there.

“Ross Clark, our first-team coach, used to work at AFC Bournemouth with one of their junior teams.

“I think they’re mindful that if there are any decent young players in the area, they do not want them slipping through the net.

“It’s a case of nothing ventured, nothing gained by inviting him down there and having a look at him in their environment.”
