FORMER Saints academy striker Bobby Scott added another two goals to his burgeoning tally as AFC Portchester triumphed 3-1 at Hamworthy United on Saturday.

After Dan Hayes had headed the Royals into a 36th-minute lead, Scott struck at the start of the second half and then crowned victory with a composed 89th-minute one-on-one finish after the Hammers had pulled one back.

Portchester are up to fifth in the Sydenhams Premier, while sure-shot Scott tops the divisional scoring chart with 19 goals from 18 appearances.

*THE Sydenhams Premier Division produced a bumper crop of 45 goals on Saturday – and Portland United’s Lewis Clarke struck four of them in a 6-0 battering of Baffins Milton Rovers at The Kendall Stadium.

Alex Godfrey opened the scoring for the reigning league champions with a sumptuous half-volley before Clarke twice bagged braces either side of a Jamie Beasley effort.

Boss Simon Browne described it as a “cracking result” after Portland’s 5-3 midweek loss to Bournemouth Poppies, but confessed: “It’s just frustrating.

"You think ‘how can we be as clinical as we have been today and be as profligate as we were in the second half on Tuesday?’

“But 6-0 away from home, you couldn’t have asked for more.”

Clarke’s appearances have been limited by work commitments and Browne said: “Sanchez Barker was unavailable and I said to Lewis ‘there’s an opportunity for you’ – and he’s grabbed it with both hands.

“We had a joke in the changing room asking whether he’d get a place in the side next week!”

Baffins must pull themselves together for tomorrow's (Tuesday) Sydenhams League Cup third round tie at Newport IW.

*NEWPORT IW have a new interim first-team manager in place.

Mike Kelly, a former professional with Charlton Athletic and Millwall, has agreed to step in and help the Sydenhams Premier strugglers, assisted by Andrew Rimmer.

Goalkeeper Gary Streeter and midfielder Darren Powell had been in caretaker charge since Andy Sampson’s departure at the end of August. The pair will continue to help out, but will mainly fall back into a playing role.

Kelly saw the size of the task ahead of him as the Islanders suffered a 5-0 hammering at Shaftesbury on Saturday.

Having missed a penalty awarded against Powell, Shaftesbury led by just a Malachi Benjamin goal at the break. But the floodgates opened in the second half as Martin Schroeder went on a four-goal rampage.

It was Port’s fifth successive defeat, leaving them one off the foot of the table.

*THE glow of their 5-1 rout of Lymington Town became a distant memory for Bashley on Saturday as they were themselves on the end of a hefty Sydenhams Premier defeat.

Despite fielding an unchanged side, they were well beaten 5-2 at home by Fareham Town.

Lewis Aimson headed Bash in front from Conor Whiteley’s corner, but that lead lasted just over a minute as Scott Hamilton levelled.

Come the 20th minute Curt Robbins had put Fareham 2-1 up and, although Lewis Ross’s determined finish pulled the Foresters level before Whiteley hit the woodwork, the visitors took total command after the break as Sammy Kessack, Hamilton and Callum Laycock struck.

“We dominated the second half from start to finish and could easily have ended up with a few more goals,” said Fareham boss Pete Stiles, who leads his 14th-placed side to New Milton tomorrow for a Russell Cotes Cup first round tie.

LYMINGTON Town picked up a weekend point, but will have been disappointed to draw a 0-0 blank at Petersfield Town – the rock-bottom Rams having conceded a whopping 63 goals already this term.

Sixth-placed Lymo have a Sydenhams League Cup third round assignment at Andover New Street tomorrow (Tuesday).

*HAMBLE Club's six-match unbeaten league streak was halted 1-0 at fourth-placed Horndean.

There was little to choose between the sides, but Tyler Moret's first-half strike proved the difference.

"It was one of those games where we had to grind out an ugly win," summed up Deans boss Michael Birmingham.

*DAVE Parry and Adam Pearson scored either side of the break for Alresford Town in their 2-1 win at Bournemouth Poppies.

It made it 13 points from the last 15 for the upwardly mobile Magpies.

"Great three points," tweeted manager Richard Luffman, whose side have climbed to seventh.

"We're starting to get a head of steam now that we have everyone back. Great goal from Parry."

Alresford host Fawley AFC in the Southampton Senior Cup on Wednesday, while Hamble Club head to Christchurch in the Russell Cotes Cup.
