GOSPORT Borough have announced the signing of defender Rob Flooks from Winchester City.

The former Fawley and AFC Totton centre-back returned for a second spell at Winchester in the summer after work commitments had forced him to step down a level with Alresford Town.

He has now moved in the opposite direction to help assist Borough’s survival mission in the Evo-Stik South Premier, having only recently signed Wessex forms for Blackfield & Langley on a dual registration basis.

Flooks’s signing follows a triple swoop by Borough boss Alex Pike for midfielder Joe Lea – an ex-Saints Academy player - from Bognor Regis Town, frontman Stephane Bombelenga from East Grinstead Town and Zak Sharp from Littlehampton.

Gosport have also recently recruited Craig McAllister from Eastleigh as their player-coach.

Both Winchester City and Gosport Borough were left kicking their heels today when their matches fell foul of waterlogged pitches.

Winchester had been due to face bottom-of-the-table Bishops Cleeve in the Evo-Stik South West, but the Kayte Lane pitch failed a mid-morning inspection.

Gosport made the trip to Bishop’s Stortford and the game was given the go-ahead at 1pm.

But heavy rain intervened and the match officials called it off at 2.30pm after consulting both managers and team captains.
