FORGET the Champions League final, Real Madrid are on their way to Privett Park!

Los Galaticos, one of the biggest football clubs on the planet, will run coaching sessions at Gosport Borough FC’s ground from July 30 to August 3.

It’s a major coup for the Southern South Premier outfit and one chairman Iain McInnes and chief executive officer Ray Stainton feel the community deserve.

“Many larger clubs in our region registered interest in having Real Madrid at their club, but Madrid chose Gosport Borough,” said McInnes.

“We are delighted to be hosting them for a week. We hope the community of Gosport and surrounding areas can see that we are moving forward and looking to put Gosport Borough back on the map.”

Targeted at seven to 15-year-old boys and girls, the coaching clinic will see professional Madrid coaches providing fun and professional training under the guidelines of the Spanish club’s five-star academy, using the very latest training equipment.

If you would like your child to attend, head to www.frmclinics.co.uk. You will need to be quick though as spaces are limited.

Borough, meanwhile, have joined forces with St Vincent College to produce a new education/ training course for players to pursue a career in football.

The club are holding trials for new development squads and an elite football academy programme.

The development squads accommodate players from just eight years old to those leaving secondary education.

The elite academy is for 16 to 18-year-olds to develop their footballing skills under the supervision of Borough’s coaching staff while continuing their studies via a BTEC course at St Vincent College.

A player from each development age-group will also get the chance to win a Ronnie Moore Scholarship, providing access to a year of free development status.

*Gosport have appointed former Torquay and Weston-super-Mare goalkeeper Ryan Northmore as their new manager.

The 37-year-old, who has also played for Dorchester Town, recently returned from a year coaching in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Meanwhile, former club chairman Iain Sellstrom has resigned as vice-chairman.

Having helped steady the ship, Sellstrom feels the club are in good hands with McInnes and Stainton at the helm.
