ROMSEY Ladies first team played their last match of the season at Ganger Farm, their new and amazing home pitch.

From start to finish there was a fantastic spirit between the teams with Havant 2s full of praise for the new facilities. As a club that continuously welcomes new players of all abilities we informed them that our arms were open if any of them or their friends fancied joining Romsey next season!

Havant 2s had push back and wasted no time in storming up the pitch trying to get into the D, but were held up by Knights and Richards who gained possession and passed the ball on to the waiting Romsey midfield.

After 8 minutes and lots of attacking play Romsey were awarded a short corner. Collins hit the ball to Jenner who took a straight strike from the top of the D. A perfect short corner routine which put Romsey 1-0 up.

More attacking play followed with Romsey forcing Havant to push defenders back. Havant had a 16 yard hit out, which was intercepted by captain Beeching, who took the ball into the D and passed to Ryan who thumped the ball into the goal. 2-0 up and full of confidence led to high fives and hugs all round.

As a well-drilled and skilful team, Havant continued to fight and were eventually awarded with a goal, putting Romsey on edge, 2-1. Wann worked well on hit outs and Reilly made some fantastic saves keeping Romsey in the game.

With Havant full of confidence they passed the ball up the pitch as a team and scored their second goal making it 2-2 for half time.

Hampshire Chronicle:

After a positive team talk Romsey went back on the pitch determined to win. The whole team was fantastic in midfield and defence with Lewis and Jones blocking any advances from Havant.

Romsey pressed high to support the numerous runs and powerful balls being crossed into the D. Akerman passed to Duncan who dribbled the ball into the D and was unlucky not to score. Jenner smashed the ball into the D, which was saved by Havant, but the rebound was picked up by Williams and fired back into the goal.

Romsey was relieved to take the lead, with time running out, 3-2. Player of the match Skudder continuously made fantastic runs up the line crossing the ball into the D. Ryan managed to get on the end of one of the crosses and hit the ball into the corner of the goal, scoring her second goal of the match and making the final score 4-2 to Romsey.

Romsey was delighted with the win and are happy to continue playing in ‘South Central Women’s Division 1 South’, next season.

Thank you to coach Mason, manager Cooper and all the side line cheerers for all their support this season!
