At the halfway stage of the season, the Chairman writes….

I am proud to say, we have been recognised by the Rugby Football Union at the National level as a community rugby club that is actually growing despite many other rugby clubs struggling.

At senior level, Winchester Rugby Club's senior men’s teams all won promotion last season and have continued to recruit more players. So much so, that we now run four senior men’s teams, the firsts, seconds, thirds and the Knights, one more team than last season. Under the watchful eye of Senior Director of Rugby Matt Stagg and all of the coaching teams led by head coach Gareth Martin, the place has a really good feel about it. We are also proud to have our own Ladies team at senior level.

Our Academy (Colts) is as strong as ever and a great feeder bank for the seniors.

At age grade (old mini and juniors) again under the watchful eye of age grade DOR Christine Donald we can boast of 700 girls and boys from 6 – 16 years taking over our own facilities as well as all of North Walls Park on a Sunday.

Our “one club” ethos has seen the interaction between the seniors and age grade as never seen before with specific age groups having match day experiences on first-team home matches reciprocated with the first team rocking up the next day to help coach.

Now this does just not happen….without our dedicated army of volunteers ( about 150) at the last count coaches, first aiders, team managers, the grounds team, the media and match day reporters, we would simply not be able to do what we do here at Nuns Road.

I would also like to thank all of our sponsors, again without their support we would simply not be able to operate as a large community rugby club.

Rugby is for everyone and the club has various options by way of membership assistance and a good quality second-hand kit should anyone wishing to join need a little helping hand.

Bring on the second half of the season….

Come On Winch….
