Leicestershire are set to be without their captain Matthew Hoggard for their visit to Hampshire next week.

Hoggard will be unavailable to Hampshire's second division rivals for much of the next month, following his operation on a hand injury suffered in training.

Veteran former England seamer Hoggard hurt himself last week and had surgery yesterday on his left hand.

Leicestershire coach Phil Whitticase told thecricketer.com: "How quickly he plays will be dependent upon how quickly he heals, but it's his non-bowling hand - which is a positive."

Hoggard suffered a similar injury last summer, missing two months back then after hurting his right hand.
