Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes refused to blame his high-powered strike force for a rare off day as the Bundesliga leaders were held at home to Hertha Berlin.

Bayern’s 15-match winning run was ended by a goalless draw at the Allianz Arena as stubborn Hertha dug in to frustrate their opponents.

Goalkeeper Rune Jarstein had an impressive afternoon and none of the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller, Arjen Robben or Franck Ribery could find a way past him.

Heynckes said on the Bayern website: “My team had a good approach to the match, despite the goalless draw.

“We were very committed. We had gilt-edged chances we didn’t use, especially in the first half.

“It’s tough against opponents who are clever in defence. Hertha did a good job. We can live with the point, I can’t blame my team at all. We missed many chances, which is unusual, but days like this happen.”

David Alaba added: “The match wasn’t easy. Our opponents were awkward, they were very well-organised in defence and closed down the space.

“We created chances nonetheless, but you have to take them if you want to win. Unfortunately we didn’t make the most of them.”

Bayern also suffered an injury setback with Kingsley Coman suffering an ankle problem late on in the match.

Coman, a second-half substitute, rolled his ankle in a tackle.

Heynckes said: “He has big problems, but his ligaments are okay. We’ll have to see how it develops over the next few days.”

Hertha coach Pal Dardai admitted his game plan had worked well.

He said: “We put into practice what we had planned in defence. More wasn’t possible. We have to be very, very satisfied.”
