Glenbrae PGA Fourball Championship.

Rob Edwards and David Porter won the PGA South Region qualifier of the Glenbrae PGA Fourball Championship, supported by SkyCaddie, recently after carding a superb round of 58.

Lee-on-the-Solent professional Edwards and Wellow's Porter finished two shots clear after finishing 11-under-par at North Downs GC.

Maidenhead's Steve Geary and Sunningdale's Stephen Speller were joint second alongside Mark Reynolds, who is from Golf Centrum Noordvijk, and North Foreland's Darren Parris.

Newbury Golf Centre's Nigel Hart and Hadden Hill's Andrew Bayliss were fourth after carding a respectable 61 in difficult conditions.

Speller was delighted after he booked his place in the final of the tournament at Fulford Golf Club in October.

He said: "It was miserable and wet out there, so Steve (Geary) and I both played very well considering the conditions.

"We started well, but the back nine played a lot tougher than the front nine and was a real challenge, so we're pleased that we stuck in there and managed to qualify. I've just moved to Sunningdale from Maidenhead, and I've not been playing a lot, so that makes the round even more pleasing. I think Steve has been playing more though and will now be looking forward to the end of the season."

Banstead Downs' Ian Goulding and James Carter finished fifth after a round of 63, while West Berkshire's Paul Simpson and Dusan Gavrilovic, who is based at Magnolia Park, finished sixth and completed the list of qualifiers.
