The season of mixed fortunes continued for Hursley Park at the weekend, the first and fourth teams winning and the seconds and thirds losing.

In a “must-win” game, Hursley 1st XI scraped home by the narrowest of margins at Havant Park.

Batting first on a soft top wicket which helped the bowlers, Hursley soon lost openers Cox and Prendergast, both lbw.

However, Chris Wheeler, restored to the first team after two weeks accumulating significant runs in the seconds, maintained his good form and became the mainstay of an innings that saw Hursley attain a reasonable 215-8 in their 50 overs.

Wheeler (pic-tured right)was out in the final over for an invaluable 90.

The Hursley total could and should have been higher but two run-outs meant that momentum was lost at critical times.

The Hursley bowling attack included two younger players. Mohamed Ab-durhan, at the age of 14, was given responsibility of first change while Nic Wheeler opened the bowling.

Wheeler bowled one of the Havant openers but further wickets were hard to come by and Havant were in the driving seat at the drinks break.

Two quick wickets restored the balance and further wickets followed as the required run rate increased.

Ultimately, Havant required 12 to win from the last over and ended up on 214-7, giving Hursley a much needed win by the narrowest of margins.

The Hursley 2nd team were no match for Idlers at The Quarters and the 3rd team lost by 52 runs to Emsworth.

Chasing 236, Hursley ended up with a total of 184-6 with Ian Watson scoring 84. The fourths enjoyed a 80- run win against Upper Clatford with Dave Worthy scoring an unbeaten 157 and following this up with bowling figures of 3-33.
