WINCHESTER City produced what owner Paul McCarthy described as a “peerless performance” to send Hayling United tumbling out of the Hampshire FA Senior Cup 5-1 on Monday night.

Having run Sydenhams Premier champions Poole Town desperately close in a 1-0 league defeat at Tatnam last Saturday, Guy Butters’ men powered into the last 16 of the county cup courtesy of Nathan Lynch (2), Mike Spinney, Sol Asajile and Zach Glasspool.

“It was a superb performance by us considering Hayling had just come off a great 7-0 victory over Romsey,” said McCarthy.

“They said we were the best team they’d played this season and, on that showing, we should win the league.”
