British values 'could bar Muslims'

Romsey Advertiser: Muslims have expressed alarm over Education Secretary Michael Gove's 'British values' rules for free schools and academies Muslims have expressed alarm over Education Secretary Michael Gove's 'British values' rules for free schools and academies

New rules for academies and free schools that compel them to promote British values are "dangerous" and could effectively stop Muslims becoming trustees or governors, it is claimed.

Education Secretary Michael Gove has drawn up funding agreements that will allow him to shut down schools or kick out governors if he believes a member of the academy trust is "unsuitable" because of "relevant conduct".

Unacceptable actions are defined as anything "aimed at undermining the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs".

The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) has raised fears that the reforms, which will apply to new academies and free schools, could prevent people with conservative Muslim beliefs viewed as incompatible with "British values" being involved - a claim the Department for Education denies.

Talha Ahmad, a senior member of the MCB, told the Guardian: "As a matter of principle, to have so much power vested in one hand is wrong. But then to have powers over an area over which there is no consensus is, frankly speaking, quite dangerous.

"People may have different views, and those views might be informed by faith. But does that mean the secretary of state should have the power to arbitrate these ideas, so much so that they should not be part of an educational establishment?

"This whole idea of giving the secretary of state the power to decide which views fall foul of British values, on matters such as school governors, seems to be draconian."

In the wake of the Trojan Horse controversy over Islamist influence on some Birmingham schools teachers were told by Mr Gove that they must "actively promote British values".

The DfE funding agreement sets out how schools must promote respect for the law, democracy, equality and tolerance of different faiths and religious and other beliefs.

A DfE spokeswoman said: "There is absolutely no bar to Muslims becoming school governors. We want a diverse range of people, of all faiths and none, to serve on governing bodies.

"It is right that we prevent unsuitable people from becoming governors. We are clear that any behaviour which undermines the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs is incompatible with being a governor in a state-funded school in England."

I would have thought Muslims and people of any other belief systems would be pleased about this, especially the last eleven words.

If you read the Quran it states precisely how Muslims must deal with non-Muslims. Let's just say it is as far from the politically correct directives on "diversity" as is possible. You only have to look at societies where Islam is imposed to see its true totalitarian nature. The Trojan Horse plot in Birmingham should be enough warning as to the impact this particular theology has on children's education. Teach facts and reason, not superstition and dogma.

Conservative muslim beliefs are NOT compatible with British values. If they don't like it, they should go and live in a conservative muslim country or whatever miserable place they came from.

Isn't it curious how a tiny minority of homophobic, transphobic, sexist and misogynistic religious people (of all religions - not just Muslims) are constantly throwing up their arms in horror at the prospect of women and LGBTQ people being according equal rights, yet as soon as they feel their OWN rights are infringed they're up there on the podium crying foul about how hard done by they feel themselves to be?

Did they skip the bits in their religious texts about the importance of not being hypocritical?;)

British Values, thank God we are not part of this: I pasted this partial report from Howie's favourite Liberal leftest British hating News Paper, The Guardian....

The fight to end FGM has gathered pace in recent months, with the government introducing data collection by health professionals and launching awareness-raising campaigns.

Meanwhile, the Crown Prosecution Service has brought the first FGM case to court. After pressure from a Guardian campaign, which won the support of 250,000 signatories, and the UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon, Michael Gove, the UK's education secretary, sent a letter to teachers in England and Wales warning them of the dangers of FGM.

Lynne Featherstone, international development minister, said that faith and community leaders, who will formally sign the declaration at a girls' summit hosted by the prime minister in July, were fundamental in the fight to end FGM. "They have the power and the influence to bring about change in their communities and communicate the true harm that is caused by this practice," she said.

FGM involves the removal of a girls outer sexual organs and can cause lifelong psychological and physical complications. An estimated 20,000 girls in the UK are thought to be at risk of the practice.

Sheikh Tayeb Mustapha Cham, imam and founder of the Taiba Welfare Foundation, said some imams still resisted condemning FGM, but religious leaders had a responsibly to speak out. "Before there were barriers when we talked, but now we can openly condemn . Now it is only imams who are isolated from society who still support this practice. Together we can remove those barriers and say this is nothing to do with religion," he said. "The voice will be heard, and if the advice comes from them, they will be obeyed." they will be obeyed."........

The last part of this got my attention "they will be obeyed... if that's the case how about the Radical Muslims, will they obey? if moderate Muslims obey their Religious leaders and not cut the clitoris of their daughters then why don't the Radical Muslims obey their Religious Leaders and stop hating the British, or do they find that part of hating the British acceptable... and those Religious leaders who wont condemn this evil practise should be named and shamed....One Country One Law....
