Police investigating incident near Bursledon infant and junior schools

The youngsters approached a member of staff, who accompanied them as they completed their journey to Bursledon infant and junior schools.

In a letter to parents staff said: “We were informed of an incident that happened on the way to school and worried some children.

“The children made a sensible decision to go to a trusted, familiar adult - a passing member of staff who then brought the children to school.

"On reaching school the children were able to provide staff with more details of what had happened.

"We made the decision to contact the police and inform the children's parents.

"Police came to school in order to talk to the children concerned. It was also agreed that PCSOs (Police Community Support Officers) were to patrol the area."

 

The incident happened on Thursday, November 15 but details have only just emerged.

A police spokesman said:“We were called after three children reported two men acting suspiciously as they walked to school.

“Officers have attended the school and offered reassurance and advice. Our enquiries are ongoing.”

It is not being linked to an incident last Friday in which a masked man stood next to a playground at Hamble Primary School and exposed himself to pupils.

It was one of three cases last week in which men were seen acting suspiciously at or near schools.

Three pupils at Oasis Academy in Southampton were followed by a man on their way to school.

Two girls and a boy, aged between 11 and 14, were targeted as they walked through an underpass near Sainsbury's in Romsey Road, Lordshill.
