A HAMPSHIRE school was closed after vandals struck and raided a safe.

Brune Park Community School in Gosport was forced to shut its doors yesterday (Monday, November 26) after what education chiefs described as a "significant break-in."

Children at the school, in Miltary Road, were sent home yesterday after damage was caused to a number of areas of the premises.

A statement on the school's social media page said: "There has been a significant break-in to the school over night with damage caused to a number of areas.

"The safety and security of students and staff is our priority so the school will be closed for today.

"Staff are talking to students who have arrived to school and providing them with a letter to bring home."

The school confirmed on social media that it has reopened today.

Hampshire police said: "At some time between 9pm on 25 November and 3.05am on 26 November, offender/s forced entry to Brune Park Community School on Military Road, Gosport.

"Once inside they forced open the safe and stole a small quantity of cash. Further damage was also caused within the school.
