IT IS the Hampshire School that is “striving for excellence”.

Oasis Academy in Sholing currently has a total of 967 students and the school became part of the Oasis academy group in September last year.

Martin Brown, the school’s headteacher said: “I am a big believer of supporting ambition and I want our students to be proud of our school.”

The site is set to undergo redevelopment in the next four weeks after the school was awarded £4.9 million from the Department of Education and Southampton City Council.

The money will go towards a new entrance, library, sports hall and help to improve the IT facilities.

Martin said the development would only “enhance the school.”

Since becoming an academy, the school has also introduced a new navy uniform, and the design was picked by the students.

Martin said: “The student leadership body is a key part in making decisions here at the school.

“Becoming an academy has been great as we are now part of a larger family, and community the depth of analysis around our exams results are better.”

“I am really passionate about all of our pupils achieving their personal best.

“We are striving for excellence here and my main ambition is focused on the quality of teaching because education in Southampton is not celebrated enough.”

“We are constantly challenging our students to the best of their ability.”

Headteacher Martin Brown

Oasis Academy Sholing became part of the Oasis family, including a wider community based “hub” in September 2018. An exciting time and an opportunity to continue to transform lives positively and continue to create a culture where all students are striving for excellence. Success really does emerge when we work, learn and develop together. Oasis Academy Sholing is a great school to lead and be a part of, our students constantly show that they can challenge misconceptions and aim to achieve their personal best.

Working in Southampton as a leader for over 13 years in a city which has a particular heart, we have such an opportunity to thrive and develop our leaders of tomorrow. As I say to our students, if your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more you are a leader.

At Oasis Academy Sholing we strongly believe in celebrating success through world class aspiration and recognises the enjoyment in learning so that all are inspired to achieve.

Since joining the school in 2014 I have recognised that community and family is central, there really is a pride in our area and parents believe that exceptional education should, quite rightly, be a right for all.
