IT IS the Hampshire School striving to make lessons "engaging and exciting."

Titchfield Primary School in Southampton Road in Fareham has a total of 182 pupils.

Michelle Stephens took over as the headteacher three years ago and since then she has been ensuring the schools curriculum is filled with visits and activities to promote interactive learning.

Michelle said: "We want learning to come alive for our pupils and we also think it is important to link it to real life.

"We want learning to be purposeful."

The school recently had a visit from Warburtons who taught year one pupils about healthy eating.

Also, the school conduct a home learning project each half term allowing students to pursue an interest of their own during the holidays.

Michelle added: "The pupils are able to take control and ownership of their learning in the home project and it also allows families to get involved."

As of this year a new music initiative has been introduced at the school, ensuring that every pupil learns to play three instruments throughout their time at the school.

The pupils learn recorder in year two, the steel pans in year three and the ukulele in year five.

Deputy Head Seb Olway who teaches ukulele said: "The kids love the music lessons.

"It is great they are learning a new skill and it really brings the class together."

MICHELLE STEPHENS:

Our vision for Titchfield Primary is encapsulated in our school strapline of ‘We STRIVE for Success’. STRIVE is an acronym for our learning values; Self-Motivation, Thinking, Resilience, Independence, Valued Collaborator, Emotional Intelligence which are what our children need to be successful in their future lives.

STRIVE has supported the children to be amazing learners and they come in to school every day excited to engage in the opportunities the fantastic staff team plan for them.

I have been headteacher for almost three years and it’s a pleasure to lead such a wonderful school. I regularly ask the children what’s special about our school and they often say, ‘We’re like a family, we know everyone’ and we are very proud of our family atmosphere where the children feel safe and secure.

We celebrate the children’s success regularly in class and at our celebration assembly where the children receive certificates for being a star learner or for using one of the STRIVE values well. The children love this assembly!

All of the staff ‘STRIVE for Success’ too and we are always looking to how we can make learning relevant and engaging for the children. Titchfield Primary is an exciting place to be!
