MORE than 125 firefighters tackled a major fire at the Potters Heron Hotel in Ampfield.
Crews were called shortly before 6pm on Monday night after a fire began in one of the chimneys, firefighters believe.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue say that no-one has been injured.
Firefighters say that the blaze came under control just before 10pm, as they began scaling down.
Twenty-five engines have helped tobattle the fire, and the A3090 Winchester Road was closed in both directions.
Two ladder platforms were also in use.
Hampshire traffic service ROMANSE had asked drivers to stay away from the area.
Ambulances were at the scene as the smoke poured out onto the road due to the thatch roof.
Firefighters then spent time removing some of the thatch on the roof to stem the smoke.
The building famously burned down in November 1966.
