RESIDENTS of Lockerley, East Dean and surrounding villages came out in force on Sunday to raise funds for a playground in the area.

As previously reported, a community group is hoping to raise £60,000 to build a playground in Lockerley, on Jubilee Field.

A fundraising programme has been launched in a bid to help raise funds for the area.

The group says there are currently no facilities like they are hoping to build, anywhere nearby.

On Sunday, a bluebell walk had been organised that included a cream tea for those attending.

More than 80 people turned up to the event, which raised just more than £450 for the cause.

A statement from the community group said: “The attendance of nearly 30 children also proved just how great the need is for a proper play space!

“The Lockerley and East Dean Playground Committee would like to say a huge thank you to all those who attended and helped on the day, in particular Liz and Andy Holton who organised and hosted the event.

“Our fundraising programme will continue with Pocket Theatre pick ‘n’ mix – a selection of songs and sketches at Lockerley Village Hall on June 30 at 7.30pm.”

The proceeds from the bluebell walk have all gone to the playground fund, which has now raised £16,265.

The group says that there is ‘still some way to go’ to raise the estimated £60,000 that is needed.

Tickets for the concert are priced at £10 each and can be purchased from Lockerley Green Stores.
