THE Straight Mile near Romsey was closed for five hours last night.

Police were working alongside fire crews from Romsey and Eastleigh after a four-car crash.

Though no-one was trapped, police, and the air ambulance were called shortly before 4.30pm.

Hampshire Constabulary said: "We were called at 4.28pm to reports of a collision on the Straight Mile near Ampfield.

"A Volvo, Mercedes, Honda Civic and a fourth vehicle were involved.

"The road closed in both directions."

Drivers were stuck in delays that built around Ampfield.

The road did not reopen until around 10pm.
