THOUSANDS of people are expected to flock to Romsey as a popular event returns.

The Romsey Antique Collectibles and Decorative Art Fair will return on October 21 when stall holders will be at five different venues in the town centre to give residents and visitors the opportunity to go shopping and visit Romsey at the same time.

A range of items including furniture, glassware, jewellery, vintage clothing, ceramics, postcards and even vinyl records from the 60s, 70s and 80’s will be on sale at the Cornmarket, the Town Hall , Abbey Hall, Church Place and King John’s House Museum.

Street food will be available throughout the day and cream tea will be served at King John’s House.

The event is organised by the town centre management team and aims to bring the community together and give visitors the chance to visit Romsey while shopping in town.

Mark Edgerley, Romsey town centre manager, said: “We run the antiques fair at five separate locations to encourage people to move around the town, we hope if they are new to the area they will like the historic setting of the fair and perhaps return on another day to explore some more. At past fairs we have had people visiting from the surrounding towns and villages but also from as far as Bristol, Newbury and even South London.”

The free initiative is run twice a year and is part of a series of events aimed at attracting more visitors and local residents into Romsey.

“Since we started this project three years ago we are seeing more footfall and more shops and cafes are opening to benefit from the additional visitors,”Mr Edgerley added.

During the day artists will also showcase their artwork.
