ABBOTSWOOD Court care home in Romsey has been celebrating its third year anniversary with residents, friends and carers and a visit from Hampshire council leader Roy Perry.

Presenting Abbotswood Court's longest-serving residents with a bouquet, Cllr Perry recognised the occasion and the care home's work in the local community.

Founded in 2015 and situated on Michin Road Abbotswood Court is a purpose-built care home that offers 60 rooms and a wide range of recreational facilities.

Cllr Perry was introduced to their specialist dementia care services, which include the Namaste Care Programme. Namaste meets the needs of people with advanced dementia through human contact, sensory stimulation and meaningful activity.

He also acknowledged Abbotswood's role in the local community. The care home hosts regular Forget-Me-Not Cafés, giving local carers an opportunity to meet over coffee and cake, chat, receive guidance, take part in activities and share experiences. They also offer complimentary ‘Community Coffee Mornings' every Thursday, which give people a chance to meet like-minded individuals, make friends and combat loneliness.

Gemma Ridout-Bowden, general manager of Abbotswood, said: "We were pleased to welcome Cllr Perry and celebrate our anniversary. Over the last three years, we've achieved our aim of helping residents live a happier, healthier and more fulfilled life. But don't just take our word for it! Ask our residents."

One of the first residents to move into Abbotswood Court, 92-year-old Thomas Timson, said: "I made the decision to move to Abbotswood following the death of my wife, who I had nursed for more than two years. In those early days there was more staff than residents, however, I never feel lonely as now there are lots of people and always someone to talk to. The food is good, there is regular entertainment and I cannot fault the attentive, friendly carers. It's the perfect place for my son, grandchildren and great grandchildren to come visit me.''

Cllr Perry said: "I was pleased to celebrate the special occasion with Abbotswood Court and present residents, including Tom, with a bouquet. I applaud the important role the care home plays in Romsey and the wider Hampshire community. The support the staff provide to those living with dementia , as well as their families and carers is incredibly important.''
