THE community is set to come together to remember Southampton murdered teenager Lucy McHugh and raise money for charity.

Dozens of people are expected to flock to Mansel Park Pavilion in Evenlode Road, in Southampton tomorrow to take part in a fundraising event in memory of the 13-year-old.

As previously reported, the Redbridge Community School pupil’s body was found at Southampton Sports Centre on July 26, 2018.

Her mum Stacey White has recently spoken at length of Lucy’s plans for her future and has confirmed that the fundraising event set to take place tomorrow will feature all the things that Lucy liked including ice cream and bouncy castles.

There will also be music, a cake sale and several food stalls selling candy floss, popcorn and hotdogs.

Ms White said the event will help raise money to provide bereavement support for parents who have lost children prematurely and to support charities which protect children.

Part of the money raised will also go towards Lucy’s Garden, the memorial garden set to be created at Redbridge Community School.

As previously reported, the new garden will be within the school ground and will give students a place where they will be able to reflect and remember their friend.

In an interview released earlier this week, Ms White said part of the money raised tomorrow will also be used for community projects in Lucy’s honour.

Talking about the fundraising event she added: “It’s to bring everyone in the community together near and far, with all the things that Lucy loved to do. There has been a lot of support from a lot of companies.

Daily Echo:

"Everybody is pulling together to make it one big day to help raise money not just for Lucy’s memorial garden but for families who are having to try to cope with the loss of a child or children.”

The event will start at 2pm and will run throughout the afternoon.

Ms White said she is determined to keep Lucy’s memory alive.

Investigations into the death of Lucy are still ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to call 101 and quote Operation Refund.
