ROMSEY students have had a chance to explore the Abbey and find out more about its history.
Year 4 pupils of Romsey Abbey C of E Primary School spent a day at Romsey Abbey to explore the historical period of the Anglo Saxons.
Miss Holyland, the Year 4 class teacher, explained: “We used artefacts to discover how the Anglo Saxons lived, heard stories based upon the time-period, found Anglo Saxon and Viking town names around the country as well as exploring many parts of the Abbey which originated from the Anglo-Saxon period. To end a truly exciting and investigative day, we all had a go at one of the main Anglo-Saxon crafts – weaving."
The day was arranged and led by Gemma from Trench 1.
She said: "The pupils were lovely and well behaved – it was a real pleasure to work with them.”
Julie-Anne Palfrey, headteacher at Romsey Abbey C of E Primary School , said: "I am delighted with the learning the children have done on their Anglo-Saxon day– the Abbey is like an extension to our school classrooms and is a fantastic learning resource."
