IT IS beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Romsey.

Hundreds of singers took to the town centre on Monday as the annual Carols in the Market Place returned.

Led by The Michelmersh Silver Band, local choirs came together for the event organised by the The Rotary Club of Romsey.

This year more than £1,500 was raised in support of Prostate Cancer UK.

Several local choirs, including the Romsey Male Voice Choir and the Romsey Youth Choir, sang throughout the evening.

The Rev Bryan Taphouse, president-elect of The Rotary Club of Romsey, said: “There was a fantastic atmosphere and the Rev Thomas Wharton, Vicar of Romsey, told the crowd the story of Silent Night before we sang it. It was a poignant moment, everybody got emotional.”

The event has been run since 1957.

“It always brings the community together, we had a really good crowd and we would like to thank the people who came and donated,” Mr Taphouse said.
