SCHOOLS across Hampshire are set to go plastic-free for one day.

The Final Straw, a Hampshire group which is working to minimise the amount of plastic entering the sea, has launched the plastic free day to celebrate David Attenborough’s, pictured, 93rd birthday.

It will take place on May 8, and currently 23 schools across the south have signed up.

The day will involve an assembly focusing on plastic in the environment, creating posters or artwork about ocean health and the impact of plastic in the environment.

Students will also write letters to local and central government requesting more action to be taken to combat the production, use and waste of single use plastic.

Children and staff must also go plastic free or have only one item of plastic for the day including lunchboxes and drinks. To get involved contact
