PRO-EUROPEAN campaigners from Andover were among the 2,500 people who marched through Winchester city centre on Saturday.

North Hampshire for Europe members joined the protest against the government’s plan for Brexit, where marchers rallied down the city’s high street before gathering outside the Guildhall.

The crowd heard speeches from Liberal Democrat leader Sir Vince Cable and Labour peer Lord Adonis as well as from the joint organisers, the European Movement Hampshire and the Liberal Democrats southern region.

Jonathan Buisson, chair of North Hampshire for Europe, said: “It was a real morale booster for all those attending. The campaign to stop Brexit before it causes unfathomable damage to everyone’s lives and the whole British economy is getting stronger even as the crunch point approaches.

“It was great to march alongside groups from right across the south of England and, in particular, to see so many children there.

“It is they who have most to lose from ending freedom of movement and taking away our rights as European citizens.”

The group is calling on MPs from all parties to consider how they can revoke Article 50 which was been triggered to allow the country to leave the European Union.
