THE official opening date of a recently revamped swimming complex in Romsey has been unveiled.

The Romsey Rapids Sports Complex will reopen to the public on February 23.

As previously reported, the centre has undergone a £1.5 million revamp.

In December Places Leisure, the company which runs the complex together with Test Valley Borough Council, said the revamped facilities would reopen by February 18.

But now it has confirmed it will reopen by the end of next week as a few more days were needed to complete the refurbishment works to the pool and changing areas.

The revamped centre will have new changing rooms, and the pool area has been redecorated.

Places Leisure said the village changing had been completely stripped and replaced with new high-grade laminate cubicles and lockers.

An spot with benches for removing shoes before entering the changing room has also been created, as well as a new vanity area with free to use hairdryers, a new disabled toilet and poolside showers.

Meanwhile, the new health suite will showcase a large traditional sauna, steam room and feature drench showers. It will also incorporate a relaxation area with heated benches, dedicated changing areas and treatment rooms. An infra-red sauna has also been included in the design.

Because it needs a new column and steps, the flume will not be available until the Easter holidays.

A spokesperson for Romsey Rapids said: “We are looking forward to unveiling the new wet-side facilities to our customers and offering them an enhanced leisure provision that can be enjoyed by all members of our community.

“It had been hoped that extensive refurbishment works could be completed this week but unfortunately this has not been possible. Despite our best efforts we just needed a few more days to complete the refurbishment works to the pool and changing areas. We would like to thank customers for their continued patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

In the meantime, members can use pools in Eastleigh and Andover.
