DEVELOPERS have submitted plans for a new health centre and park-and-ride near Romsey.

Test Valley planning bosses are considering a bid for a permanent park-and-ride with 1,000 spaces and health campus at Adanac Park in Nursling.

As previously reported, the park-and-ride will be used by staff at University Hospital Southampton(UHS).

Meanwhile, the health campus facility will provide a group of buildings for use by UHS and other healthcare organisations for things such as clinical facilities, training centres or administrative spaces.

According to the proposals, retail units, restaurants and cafes are also set to be built at the site.

As previously reported, public consultations were held in the past few months.

Residents raised concerns about the impact the new scheme will have on traffic, the character of the area and the nearby properties.

Developers said the initial plan is to open the park-and-ride to NHS staff only but it may be opened to the public in the future.

They also said the car park would reduce traffic on local roads as staff members who travelled via the M271 would be able to park their cars before they entered the residential area.

The plans were put forward by Prime plc.

Ewan Forsyth, development director at Prime plc, said the whole area of the site was always intended for development of offices and industrial buildings, and the local infrastructure is designed to cope with traffic to be generated by this.

As previously reported, plans for a temporary 1,010-vehicle park-and-ride in Nursling were submitted in August.

The application suggested the site will only be used by UHS staff for four years.

Currently, employees park at either the nearby B&Q or Sainsbury’s, where sections of the car parks have been allocated. A bus then picks them up.

Although temporary, an asphalt surface will be laid.
