A FORMER Saints player has been jailed for 18 months after pleading guilty to dealing crystal meth.

Adrian Caceres appeared in the District Court of Western Australia, where he admitted possessing methamphetamine, also known as ice, with intent to sell or supply.

Caceres, 37, is reported to have used meth himself between the ages of 21 and 35.

Daily Echo:

The Argentine-born footballer was caught with more than 11 grams of ice and 50 small snap-lock deal bags, some containing traces of a white crystal substance, in Perth in 2017.

His lawyer, Louis Kristopher, told the court his client’s life “spiralled out of control” after he retired in 2015.

He added; “Trying to integrate into the real world and a job, other than only playing soccer, made him use drugs.”

Judge Simon Stone told him: “The quantity of the drugs, the number of clip seal bags indicate to me on the face of it, that your client is a low-level user-dealer for reward.

“Methamphetamine causes a significant amount of misery, not only to the addicts but to the family of the addicts – and to the community – because it is so crime related.

“Most of the crimes that come before this court, most of the offending that comes before this court, is related to methamphetamine use, or illicit substances, in one way or another.”

Crystal meth is described as a super-strength amphetamine stimulant.

Daily Echo:

It increases body temperature, heartbeat and blood pressure, increasing the risk of the user suffering a stroke or heart attack. It can cause coma and even death.

Caceres played for Saints in the 2000-2001 season but failed to make the first team and later played for other clubs including Aldershot Town in 2005.

After moving to Australia later that year he turned out for sides such as Melbourne Victory, Perth Glory and Central Coast Mariners.
