THE ROMSEY Chamber of Commerce has announced its charity of the year.

Prescription Art Test Valley are the chosen charity who the chamber of commerce intend to support this year.

The charity which has been running for one year at The Dr Peter Center helps people with anxiety, depression and loneliness through the mediums of music and art.

Patients are referred to the charity by their GP for a six week programme of sessions.

Jill Willson who is the chair of the charity and a trustee said that the aim of the charity is to enable people to be "expressive and mindful."

When asked about how she felt about the Prescription Art becoming the charity of the year she said: "We are all absolutely thrilled.

"It will help us enormously and will go towards our running costs.

"We'd also like to expand as mental health can have a real impact on peoples lives.

"This shows that mental health is being taken seriously."

Peter Speirs who is the president of the chamber of commerce in Romsey said:" We like to choose local charities where we can make a difference.

"Prescription Art is a brilliant charity doing news things and we wanted to give them some support."

The Chamber of Commerce normally raises £1000 at its summer garden party in Mill Lane which will be donated to Prescription Art.

This year's garden party is set to take place on July 17.
