A HOUSING developer is set to back the Romsey relay marathon for a fourth year.

Barrett Homes has signed up as the sponsor for the event which is set to take place on May 12.

More than 150 teams have registered for the event which will take place at Broadlands Estate.

The annual charity event last year raised £120,000 for charity and gives people of all ages and abilities the chance to take part.

Michelle Storer from Barratt Homes said: “We are delighted to be supporting this amazing event again this year and our own team of runners are really looking forward to taking part.

“The event offers a perfect opportunity for residents, businesses and community groups to come together and do something fantastic for charity while keeping fit.”

The unique event sees teams of up to 10 members take it in turn to run two laps of a 1.3-mile course before passing the baton to the next team member. The oldest competitor to date has been aged over 80 and the youngest was eight years old and the event caters for both able bodied runners and those with disabilities.

Event organiser, Charlie Daniel-Hobbs, added: “The Rotary Club of Romsey is delighted to be working with Barratt Homes again this year.

"Last year was by far the most successful event to date and this year looks like being ever better.

“The Relay Marathon is not only a race, but a major fundraising opportunity, a sound team building exercise and a family day out in a beautiful setting. Most importantly, it brings the whole community together to not only raise funds, but also awareness of various charities serving Hampshire.”
